We’re closing out the week today here at The Bits with a bit of announcement news, word of a few 4K title delays, and more new disc reviews.

First up, Tim has turned in reviews of Stephen King’s Children of the Corn (1984), directed by Fritz Kiersch and newly released on 4K Ultra HD by Arrow Video, as well as Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds which is new on 4K Ultra HD from Universal.

Also, Stephen has reviewed Nick Murphy’s The Awakening (2011) on Blu-ray from the Cohen Media Group, along with Nadia Tass’ Malcolm (1986) on Blu-ray from Umbrella Entertainment.

More reviews are on the way, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for them.

Now then, the big announcement news today is that Criterion has just revealed their January 2022 release slate, which is set to include Thomas Vinterberg’s The Celebration (Spine #1108 – Blu-ray) on 1/11, Garrett Bradley’s Time (Spine #1109 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Richard Lester’s A Hard Day’s Night (Spine #711 – Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K) on 1/18, and Kirsten Johnson’s Dick Johnson Is Dead (Spine #111 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Jane Campion’s The Piano (Spine #1110 – Blu-ray and 4K) on 1/25. We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List and Criterion Spines Project pages accordingly. [Read on here...]

Speaking of 4K, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has informed us that—due to supply chain delays—the following titles will now street on 11/16: The Mad Max Anthology, Mad Max: The Road Warrior, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, and The Middle Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition. Adjust your plans accordingly.

Koch Media's DUNE: 7-Disc Ultimate Edition (Blu-ray & 4K UHD)Also, Koch Media in Germany has delayed their Dune: 7-Disc Ultimate Edition 4K/Blu-ray release to 2/10/22 (from its originally-announced 10/14 street date) because of the difficulty in producing the special “noble acrylic glass box” packaging for the release (pictured at right). However, if you were able to pre-order the title before 10/10 (and only European customers were allowed to do so), you should receive it before Christmas. Essentially, the title is being manufactured in two batches, one for pre-orders and one for February 2022. The wide release Koch 4K editions (regular Mediabook packaging and Steelbook) are still shipping now as originally planned.

And Capelight Pictures has just released The Running Man: 3-Disc Limited Collector’s Edition in Mediabook packaging that includes 4K (with Dolby Vision and HDR10), Blu-ray, and a Blu-ray bonus disc. Street date was yesterday. You can order it here on their website.

In other news, Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage is tentatively set for release on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 12/14.

MPI Media Group has set Jean-Jacques Annaud’s The Lover (1982) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 1/25/22.

Universal is expected to release Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time to Die on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 12/21. The studio has also tentatively set David Gordon Green’s Halloween Kills on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 1/11/22.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ 4K release of Hard Target (1993) is now expected on 12/7.

And Gunpowder & Sky will release François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell’s Summer of 84 (2018) on 4K Ultra HD on 10/26 via Vinegar Syndrome.

All of these street dates are to be considered tentative and unofficial until the studios in question make their formal announcements (or the titles appear for sale online with confirmed dates).

That’s all for today. Back with more on Monday.

Cheers, everyone!
