We’re wrapping up the week here at The Bits with a few new disc reviews...

I’ve turned in my thoughts on Sony’s recent Heavy Metal: Limited Edition 2-Movie Collection, a 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release that include the original film remastered with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, plus the Heavy Metal 2000 sequel as a Blu-ray bonus.

Tim has taken a look at Umbrella Entertainment’s new Blu-ray release of Heavy Metal, which is available as an all-region import.

Tim has also turned in his thoughts on Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Scream Factory.

And Dennis closes out our review selections today with a look at Boomerang (1992) on Blu-ray from Paramount. [Read on here...]

Just so you know, we also posted three additional reviews here at The Bits yesterday, including...

Tim’s take on the Candyman: Collector’s Edition in 4K UHD from Scream Factory.

His look at Paul Vatelli’s Stiff Competition in 4K UHD, an adult title from Vinegar Syndrome.

And Stephen’s thoughts on Dennis Hopper’s Out of the Blue in 4K Ultra HD from Severin Films.

We’ll have more new Blu-ray and 4K reviews next week as well, after the long holiday weekend.

Meanwhile, there’s not a lot of release news to report today. It appears that Paramount has decided to wait until after the Fourth of July holiday to announce their next wave of Star Trek 4K UHD catalog titles, possibly until after the season finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+ next Friday.

In the meantime, our friends at Via Vision and Imprint Films in Australia have just announced their September release slate, which is set to include Akira Kurosawa’s Dersu Uzala (1976) for the first time ever on Blu-ray Disc! Extras will include a new audio commentary by Stuart Galbraith IV, a new video interview with film historian Michael Brooke, a vintage “making of” documentary, featurettes on the writer, director, and actor Viadimir Arseniev, and more. The company will also release Barbet Schroeder’s Barfly (1987, with The Charles Bukowski Tapes), Zhang Yimou’s The Road Home (1999, in its first world wide Blu-ray release), William Friedkin’s Blue Chips (1994), Adrian Lyne’s Lolita (1997), and Arthur Joffe’s Harem (1985).

Akira Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala on Blu-ray from Imprint Films!

And Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the 4K Ultra HD release of Jim Gillespie’s I Know What You Did Last Summer on 9/27, in celebration of the film’s 25th anniversary. The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR, a new Dolby Atmos mix, some legacy special features, and 6 new deleted scenes including an alternate ending. The remainder of the legacy extras will appear on a Blu-ray disc in the package.

That’s all for this week. Everyone have a great weekend, and a great Fourth of July holiday for those of you here in the States, and we’ll see you back here starting on Tuesday next week.

Stay tuned...!
