We have a bit more 4K Ultra HD news for you today...

But first, another new disc review: Tim has given Calvin Floyd’s In Search of Dracula (1975) a review on Blu-ray Disc, from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. The film stars Christopher Lee.

Now then, that 4K news... Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash for release on 4K Ultra HD on 9/22 (SRP appears to be $30.99). Audio will be Dolby Atmos with HDR10 high dynamic range.

Extras will include audio commentary with writer/director Damien Chazelle and J.K. Simmons, An Evening at the Toronto International Film Festival with Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons, and Damien Chazelle, Timekeepers: Famous Drummers Discuss Their Craft and Passion for Drumming, the Whiplash Original Short Film with optional commentary, a deleted scene, and the film’s theatrical trailer. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

In addition, Disney and Fox’s 4K Ultra HD release of Chris Columbus’s Home Alone is now available for pre-order on Amazon with a street date of 9/15. You can see that cover artwork below as well.

Also on the 4K front, Lionsgate is releasing Mamoru Oshii’s original 1995 anime Ghost in the Shell on 4K Ultra HD on 9/8. We don’t have a pre-order link for that one yet, but we do have temp cover artwork (which means it’s likely to change) below.

We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits with all of these titles accordingly.

Sticking with Lionsgate for a moment, the company has announced a Rob Zombie Trilogy Steelbook Blu-ray release on 9/8, including House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, and 3 From Hell (SRP $34.99).

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set Vikings: Season 6, Volume 1 for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/13, including all 10 episodes. Extras will include The Legacy of Lagertha featurette, a “creator’s audio commentary” on the episode The Best Laid Plans, and deleted scenes.

And there are a number of other titles newly available for pre-order on Amazon, including Imprint’s When Worlds Collide (due 9/4 – note that the listing says it’s Region B, but we’ve confirmed that it’s all region), MVD’s Split Second (8/11), and a few Kino titles including Stuart Paton’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1916 – 7/28), Tender Mercies (8/11), and Cry Freedom (also 8/11).

Here’s a look at the cover artwork for those (click the covers to pre-order)...

Whiplash (4K Ultra HD) Home Alone (4K Ultra HD) Ghost in the Shell (1995) (4K Ultra HD)

When Worlds Collide (Blu-ray Disc) Cry Freedom (Blu-ray Disc) Tender Mercies (Blu-ray Disc)
