All right, we have a very quick post here at The Bits today, but it’s got a goodie bit of 4K news for you.

First though, I believe I promised some new disc reviews from...

I’ve now posted my thoughts on the Warner Archive Collection’s new Blu-ray edition of V: The Final Battle. And since we hadn’t covered the original yet, I went back to review their V: The Original Miniseries Blu-ray from last year as well.

Also, just this morning I posted a review of Erik Nelson’s tremendous WWII documentary The Cold Blue, new on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. The disc also includes director William Wyler’s fully restored original documentary Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (1944). Both of them are a treat, and I guarantee you’ve never seen 8th Air Force air combat footage looking so good before. Don’t miss it. [Read on here...]

Now then, I may... MAY... have one more new disc review for you either later today or tomorrow as well, provided the disc shows up this afternoon as expected. But if you’re feeling a need for 4K speed… me too. I’ll say no more.

Speaking of 4K Ultra HD though, we’ve learned that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket on the format on 9/22. We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

And you will almost certainly be as thrilled as I was to learn that Studio Canal’s long-awaited Flash Gordon: 40th Anniversary Edition was officially announced yesterday for release on 4K Ultra HD on August 3rd in the UK. The set will include Blu-ray Disc content as well, and those Blu-rays will be coded for Regions A, B and C. Here’s what you’ll get...

Flash Gordon: 40th Anniversary Edition (4K Ultra HD)

And just to really get your juices flowing, here’s Studio Canal’s official trailer for the release...

“Gordon’s ALIVE?!?!?!” Yes, Vultan... yes, he is indeed.

By the way, we’ve also updated our Release Dates and Artwork section here at The Bits with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links as available.
