Good afternoon, folks! We’re starting the week off with four new disc reviews...

Stuart has given Via Vision’s On the Buses Film Collection box set a review, which includes On the Buses (1971), Mutiny on the Buses (1972), and Holiday on the Buses (1973) all on Blu-ray. These of course are based on the popular British TV sitcom from the late 1960s and early 70s.

Dennis has taken a look at Raoul Walsh’s They Drive by Night (1940) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

Stephen has offered his thoughts on Andrei Tarkovsky’s Nostalghia (1983) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And finally, I’ve completed an in-depth review of one of my favorite films: Sergio Leone’s magnificent Western epic Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) in 4K Ultra HD from Paramount via their Paramount Presents line. And I’m afraid the disc is... complicated.

In any case, more new disc reviews are on the way this week, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for them! [Read on here...]

In release news today, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has set Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain (2005) for release in 4K Ultra HD on 6/25. Also coming on 6/25 to Blu-ray and DVD is David Steinberg’s Paternity (1981), starring Burt Reynolds, along with Monk: The Complete Eighth Season (2009) on Blu-ray. Following on 7/9 to Blu-ay are Daniel Mann’s Come Back, Little Sheba (1952) and The Rose Tattoo (1955), as well as George Seaton’s The Country Girl (1954). And newly-revealed as “coming soon” to Blu-ray by the company is Robert Rossen’s Body and Soul (1947).

Universal has announced the Digital only release of Radio Silence’s Abigail (2024) tomorrow, on 5/7.

Universal’s The Fall Guy is now available for pre-order on Amazon in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and 4K Steelbook. Note that the 4K Steelbook is a Walmart exclusive in the US (but you can get it on Amazon in the UK).

And both 4K versions of Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare are available for pre-order on Amazon as well.

Finally, here’s a nice surprise: Amazon UK has just posted a 4K Ultra HD listing for Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street: 40th Anniversary Edition (1984) from New Line via Warner Bros! There’s no street date, but this clearly means the title is coming to the State at some point in the coming months as well. You can view the listing here, which lists the Blu-ray extras and Steelbook packaging while noting that 4K features are still TBA.

In other news today, DC has revealed the first official photograph of actor David Corenswet as the Man of Steel in Superman (2025). You can see that here.

Meanwhile, director Wes Anderson has apparently designed his own Montblanc pen, and directed the commercial for it, is just about the most West Anderson thing I can imagine. It’s called the Schreiberling Limited Edition 1969, also coming in 2025. Goddamn it, I want one. You can see the commercial here (and it gave me the giggles)...

While we’re on the topic YouTube, director Francis Ford Coppola has just shared the first look at his new film Megalopolis (2024) in the form of a short clip. You can see that here...

Finally today, we need to take a moment to acknowledge the passing on Sunday morning of actor Bernard Hill, whose performance as King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is so humane it brings me to tears, and so stirring it makes me want to leap out of my seat. “Forth! And fear no darkness!” You may also know him from James Cameron’s Titanic and his many television roles for the BBC. He will certainly be missed. You can read more on him here via The Hollywood Reporter. He was 79.

We’ll leave you with a look at some of that cover artwork mentioned above, with Amazon or Amazon UK pre-order links if available...
