The big piece of announcement news today is that Universal Studios Home Entertainment has set Paul Thomas Anderson’s excellent and Best Picture-nominated film Licorice Pizza for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/17. The Digital version is already available (including 4K), though there are no current plans for a physical 4K Ultra HD release. Extras on the Blu-ray will include camera tests, a deleted scene, a Fat Bernie’s Commercial, and a Behind-the-Scenes featurette. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.

Also, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set The Boys: Seasons 1 & 2 Collection for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/17. Of course, the Amazon-exclusive series is already available for streaming on Amazon Prime. This release is no doubt timed to support the 6/3 debut of Season 3 on Prime. Extras on the discs will include deleted scenes and a blooper real for each season, plus Butcher: A Short Film. Again, you can see the cover artwork below.

One hopes that the this means Sony might consider releasing other series it produces for streamers on physical media eventually, including (hopefully) Apple TV’s outstanding For All Mankind (which I’d kill to own on physical 4K). [Read on here...]

Speaking of Sony, Second Sight Films in the UK has just begun taking pre-orders for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive: Limited Edition in 4K/Blu-ray Combo format. The set is due to ship on 5/30 for £54.99. One suspects a US regular edition release from Sony will follow in the months ahead. Meanwhile, here’s the link to pre-order. Thanks to Bits reader Steven B. for the heads-up. BTW, Second Sight also has a new 4K edition of The Witch coming on 6/20 if you’re interested.

In other announcement news, the Cohen Media Group will release Gagarine on Blu-ray on 5/3, followed by Year of the Jellyfish on Blu-ray on 5/10, and Two Men in Town and Outside the Law on Blu-ray on 5/17.

Film Movement will release Laura Wandel’s Playground on DVD and Digital on 5/10.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release the HBO Max Original titles The Fallout and Kimi on DVD only on 4/5 and 4/12 respectively.

Shout! Factory and GKids have set Isao Takahata’s animated classic Panda! Go Panda! (1972) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/21. The film was written by Hayao Miyazaki, and of course the pair would go on to co-found Studio Ghibli.

RLJE Films has announced that they’ll release the Shudder Original film V/H/S/94 on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 4/19. The studio has also set Last Looks for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/12. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Morena Baccarin, and Mel Gibson.

First Run Features will release Charlotte Juergen’s documentary Sunken Roads: Three Generations After D-Day on Blu-ray, DVD, and Streaming on 5/17.

And Icarus Films has set Manfred Becker’s documentary The Divided Brain for DVD only release on 4/19.

Also, for those of you who may be wondering, The Handmaid’s Tale: Season Four is not coming on Blu-ray. At least, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has no current plans at the moment. The DVD only version streeted yesterday.

And finally today, Warner Bros. tells me that their long-awaited Mad Max: The Road Warrior 4K Ultra HD replacement discs will officially begin shipping out soon (as in sometime in the next week or two) via a vendor they’ve contracted specifically to expedite things. The moment I hear from any readers who’ve received theirs, I’ll post an update here.

We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above, along with Sony’s Morbius and all three versions of Arrow Video’s True Romance. All but The Boys are available for pre-order now on Amazon.com by clicking on the covers (and we’ll add that one when it goes live)...

Licorice Pizza (Blu-ray Disc) The Boys: Seasons 1 & 2 (Blu-ray Disc) Morbius (4K Ultra HD)

True Romance (4K Ultra HD) True Romance: Steelbook (4K Ultra HD) True Romance: Deluxe Steelbook (4K Ultra HD)

Stay tuned...
