Now then… in announcement news today, Disney and Pixar have just set The Good Dinosaur for Blu-ray Combo, DVD, and digital HD release on 2/23 (no 3D version is announced). [Editor’s Note: Scratch that – it turns out there is a Blu-ray 3D Combo version, but it wasn’t highlighted in the official Disney press release.] Extras will include the Sanjay’s Super Team short, audio commentary (by director Peter Sohn, story supervisor Kelsey Mann, supervising animator Mike Venturini, director of photography/lighting Sharon Calahan, and supervising technical director Sanjay Bakshi), 7 featurettes (True Lies About Dinosaurs, Recyclosaurus, The Filmmakers’ Journey, Every Part of the Dinosaur, Dino Bites, Following the T-Rex Trail, and Hide and Seek), and 3 deleted scenes (The Attack, Building the Silo, and Waiting for Poppa). Note that the digital release also seems to include an extra not available on disc, which is the Just Listen featurette on the film’s sound mixing.
Universal has just officially set NBC’s Heroes: Reborn miniseries for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/12. Universal has also set Brian Helgeland’s Legends for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/1.
In addition, be aware that Universal appears to be releasing Quantum Leap: Season One on Blu-ray in March... but only in Australia (Region B)! One supposes there’s hope for a U.S. release eventually, but in the meantime those of you with all-region BD players take note.
Starz and Anchor Bay have just listed Fear the Walking Dead: Season One for Blu-ray and DVD pre-order on Amazon with a street date of 3/22. They also plan to release Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/8. The film stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
We’ve mentioned this before, I think, but Sony has set Zhang Yimou’s Coming Home for BD and DVD release on 3/8. You can see the cover artwork below.
Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox has set Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/1.
Alchemy is releasing Antoine Bardou-Jacquet’s Moonwalkers on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/23, starring Ron Perlman and Rupert Grint. This is the film about the CIA attempting to hire Stanley Kubrick to fake the Apollo moon landing.
Acorn Media has set the BBC’s Humans: Series One – Uncut UK Edition for Blu-ray release on 3/29.
Lionsgate is finally releasing the remastered Little House on the Prairie: Season 8 on Blu-ray on 3/22.
Scorpion Releasing has set Shadows in an Empty Room (1977 – a.k.a. Blazing Magnum) for Blu-ray release on 4/12.
Scream Factory has added a Destroyer/Edge of Sanity double feature and a Village of the Damned: Collector’s Edition for Blu-ray release on 4/12.
And finally, Kino Lorber has a fine slate of catalog titles coming in April to Blu-ray and DVD, including Journey to the Seventh Planet (1961), The Gallant Hours (1960), and The Purple Plain (1955) on 4/5, and Panic in Year Zero (1962), The Holcroft Covenant (1985), Miracle Beach (1992), Ulee’s Gold (1997), and The File of the Golden Goose (1969) on 4/19. Kino also has a number of “coming soon” titles they’ve revealed they’re working on for release in the months ahead, including the classic Randolph Scott westerns Canadian Pacific (1949) and The Caribou Trail (1950), Richard Lester’s Cuba (1979), Arthur Ripley’s The Chase (1946), Carl Reiner’s Where’s Poppa? (1970), Andrew V. McLaglen’s Something Big (1971), and Anatole Litvak’s Five Miles to Midnight (1962). For DVD only, they’re also working on the TV title Really Weird Tales (1987).
Here’s a look at Blu-ray cover artwork for some of the titles we’ve mentioned above and more (with clickable Amazon.com pre-order links if available)…
Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned...
