Now then… we’ve got a bunch of great announcement news to cover here today as well!

We’ll start with official word that Lionsgate is distributing Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair widely on Digital next week, on 2/17. In fact, you can find it available for pre-order on Apple TV right now. We’re told the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD physical release is coming later this year from Lionsgate.

A24 has just announced that Josh Safdie’s Best Picture-nominated film Marty Supreme (2025) is coming soon to Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD. [Read on here...]

I just wanted to quickly chime in here in the My Two Cents column this afternoon with a quick update.

I had actually planned a full news update today, but I burned the hell out of one of my fingers while making lunch earlier this afternoon, and unfortunately typing has been very much out of the question since then.

In any case, I’ll be back tomorrow with the usual release news—well medicated, I presume—and I’ll catch you up on all the latest with regard to Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD.

Now here’s a title I’ve known about for a while, and that I’m very excited to finally share with all of you!

Longtime Bits readers will know that this film is another huge favorite of mine. And back in January of last year… not long before we first broke the exclusive news of the new Sony/Disney distribution deal here at The Digital Bits… I was invited by Disney reps to submit a list of films that I thought the studio should consider for release on physical 4K UHD.

I compiled a list of fifty titles, an A-list of twenty-five, and a B-list of twenty-five more.

Kevin Jarre, Kurt Russell, and George P. Cosmatos’ Tombstone (1993) was at the very top of that A-list.

The third film on that A-list was Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven: Director’s Cut (2005).

Both titles have now obviously been released on physical 4K Ultra HD from Disney/Touchstone and 20th Century Studios via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment—Tombstone on 4/22, and Kingdom of Heaven on 5/27. (Initial supplies of both titles are hard to come by, but I’m told that Sony is working hard to replicate more copies.)

Well… now I can confirm that the second title on the list I submitted is finally coming to 4K Ultra HD as well, and I couldn’t possibly be more excited. That title is none other than… [Read on here...]

All right, today is Election Day here in the States, which means that partisans on both sides (and everyone in between) are feeling grumpy, nervous, or just over the whole damn thing. Some folks this evening or tomorrow—or at some point in the next two months—will be happy-ish. But while none of this feels normal, it may actually be the new normal, and that too is unsettling for lots of people.

Given all of that, I wanted to share a post today here at The Digital Bits that might actually serve as a balm or a ray of sunshine for movie and 4K fans—or at least a bit of welcome news—no matter what the outcome of today’s voting might be. So stay tuned for that in a moment.

Hobbs’s Godmonster of Indian Flats (1973) on Blu-ray from AGFA, Something Weird, and Vinegar Syndrome, and the Villages of the Damned: Three Horrors from Spain Blu-ray release also from Vinegar Syndrome, which includes Pedro Olea’s The Forest of the Beast (1970), Silvio Narizzano’s The Sky Is Falling (1975), and Gonzalo Suárez’s Beatriz (1976).

Meanwhile, the rest of us are already working on a bunch more new Blu-ray and 4K UHD reviews for next week. And I do mean a bunch. So be sure to watch for them.

The first is that Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just officially set Ivan Reitman’s Kindergarten Cop (1990) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 1/23, featuring two new audio commentaries (by film historians Alexandra Heller-Nicholas and Josh Nelson, and a second by film historian Samm Deighan). In announcement news today, we have a couple of big items to report. First, Paramount will release Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (1999) on 4K Ultra HD in both Amaray and Steelbook packaging on 9/5. This is a title we’ve had in our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits as “coming in 2023” for a few months now. Expect them to include both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. We have just a quick update for you today here at The Bits with some interesting release news, plus a few odds and ends related to titles we’ve learned from our industry sources are likely forthcoming in the months ahead.

First of all, the big news: Paramount has officially set Peter Weir’s The Truman Show (1998) for 4K Ultra HD release on 7/4 in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary. The disc is mastered from a new 4K scan of the original camera negative approved by the director and it will feature Dolby Vision HDR, as well as a new Dolby Atmos sound mix.

Extras will include the previous legacy features, among them the 2-part How’s It Going to End? The Making of The Truman Show documentary, the Faux Finishing: The Visual Effects of The Truman Show featurette, deleted scenes, a photo gallery, theatrical trailers, and TV spots.
