Hey, Bits readers!

Boy, is it good to be back posting content!

As you may have noticed, The Bits has been down for a few weeks, first as we began to experience website technical issues and more recently has we worked to make the software upgrades needed to get us back to a level of stability that allows us to move forward.

Of course, any time you update software, most things get better but a few things break, so you then have to debug and test everything as much as you can, which we’ve been doing over the last several days.

At any rate, I believe we’re finally at a point now where I can start posting news updates here again—and there’s a lot of release news to catch you up on, as you can imagine.

What’s more, we can also start posting new Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD disc reviews—and rest assured that our review team here has been writing and stockpiling tons of them while we’ve been down. So expect lots of them over the coming days.

In fact, we’re starting that right now with…

Tim’s review of Jeff Rowe’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) in 4K Ultra HD from Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Home Entertainment, as well as the recent region-free import Blu-ray 3D from Turbine Media in Germany.

Stephen’s take on Brian Gibson’s Breaking Glass (1980) on Blu-ray from Fun City Editions.

And Dennis’ thoughts on King Vidor’s The Citadel (1938) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

Again, more reviews are forthcoming, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for them! [Read on here...]

Also today, I wanted to let you guys know that our friends at Lionsgate Limited have just launched a new FLASH sale on extra copies of Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) and Mamoru Oshii’s animated Ghost in the Shell (1995) in 4K Steelbook that they’ve found in the warehouse!

Lionsgate Limited 4K Steelbook Flash Sale!

This sale will run from today until Sunday. And here’s the thing: If you sign up for their Lionsgate Insider email list (on the bottom of their website) you’ll get $5 off your purchase. Copies are extremely limited, so if you’re interested be sure to sign up and check the sale out as soon as possible!

Now then… we’ve got one more thing to report today…

Our friends at the Warner Archive Collection and their Allied Vaughn distribution partner have just sent over this official statement about the recent High Society (1956) 4K Ultra HD release:

“To our valued customers and collectors,

We have been informed by our disc replicator that a manufacturing defect has been identified in one of five production batches of the High Society 4K UHD release. This defect causes the disc to pause or skip at the 17-minute and 47-second mark of the film.

If your disc does not experience any playback issues at this specific timestamp, it is not part of the affected batch, and no further action is required.

For customers whose discs are affected, we are offering a replacement program. Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and include a copy of your original purchase receipt to initiate your replacement request. Only new product purchases are eligible; previously owned items are not covered under this replacement program.

Replacement discs will be available for shipment starting July 28th. Discs will ship in a clam shell case so customers should keep their original packaging.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your support and understanding.

All right, The Bits has obviously been down for a few weeks now, so we have lots of news to catch up on here. So I’ll be back in the morning with another My Two Cents post and more disc reviews. Over the weekend, we’ll all be working on still more reviews.

And all next week, I’ll work to catch everyone up on all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD announcements.

FYI, if you guys notice any issues with the website, please let me know via social media and we’ll work to get everything back in order again. (Note that our Release Dates & Artwork section and our RSS feeds should all be functional again shortly.)

Stay tuned!
