As promised, we’re checking back in today with another trio of new disc reviews…

First, I’ve just posted my thoughts on Clint Eastwood’s rough yet riveting western High Plains Drifter (1973) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Tim has taken a look at Ardman Animations’ A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019), new on Blu-ray from Shout! Factory.

And Dennis has delivered his take on George Marshall’s Fancy Pants (1950) on Blu-ray, also from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

More reviews are on the way tomorrow, so be sure to watch for them. [Read on here...]

The big announcement news today is that the Criterion Collection has just unveiled their February 2023 slate of titles, and there’s definitely something in there for almost everyone. Look for a 4K upgrade of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s legendary Three Colors Trilogy (Spines #587-690 – 4K UHD) on 2/7, followed by Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet (1968) (Spine #1171 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 2/14, a 4K upgrade of Richard Linklater’s slacker comedy Dazed and Confused (Spine #336 – 4K UHD) on 2/21, and Robert Townsend’s debut Hollywood Shuffle (Spine #1173 – Blu-ray) and Two Films by Marguerite Duras (Spine #1172 – Blu-ray and DVD – includes India Song and Baxter, Vera Baxter) on 2/28.

The new titles here are terrific additions to the Collection, and the upgrades are welcome indeed. Romeo and Juliet is a beautiful film, and Three Colors should be a stunner in Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range. Rest assured, we’ll definitely be reviewing both of those here at The Bits when they’re available. You can see the cover artwork for all of them below.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate has set Prey for the Devil for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 1/3/23, with the Digital release expected on 12/13. Following on 1/10 is Fear the Walking Dead: Season Seven on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. Also coming on Blu-ray and DVD from the company on 12/13 is Call Jane. And look for Paradise City on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 12/20.

Not to be outdone, Paramount has finally made the 12/13 release of Reacher: Season One official on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as manufactured-on-demand 4K Ultra HD. Each will include all eight episodes along with a pair of featurettes (Realizing Reacher and Novelistic).

And Universal will release the LGBTQ+ comedy Bros on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 11/22, featuring multiple featurettes, deleted scenes, and a gag reel.

We’ll leave you today with a look at the cover artwork for that Criterion February slate, as well as Reacher in 4K UHD. Amazon.com pre-order links will be added as they go live…
