We’ve got TWO more Blu-ray reviews for you today before we call it a week: Tim’s thoughts on Paramount’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and my own look at Warner’s fine (but also frustrating) Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection box set. Do give them a read.

In announcement news today, Microsoft Studios is apparently planning to release the live action/CG hybrid film Halo: Nightfall on Blu-ray on 3/17.

Cohen Media Group has set The Liberator for Blu-ray on 3/10.  [Read on here…]

Lionsgate will release Alpha & Omega: Great Wolf Games on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/10.

And Section 23 will release the anime title Space Brothers: Collection 1 on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/24, featuring episodes 1-13.

It’s also worth noting that Amazon is now taking pre-orders on Warner’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies on Blu-ray (this would be the theatrical cut), though no street date is yet available.

On another note, as I type this post I’m standing here in my office listening to La-La Land Records’ new The Danny Elfman Batman Collection on CD. It’s fantastic. MV and his team at La-La Land are doing amazing soundtrack presentation work these days. If you’re a Trek fan, they’ve also just released a Star Trek: Enterprise soundtrack collection, and of course they’ve already released the definitive Star Trek: The Original Series Soundtrack Collection – Limited Edition box set. If you’re looking for a unique Christmas gift for a movie fan, be sure to give their site a look.

Finally today, are any of you guys music fans? I’d like to recommend that you check out our friend Matt Rowe’s MusicTAP.net website, as well as his page on Facebook for the site. Matt’s been writing TAP blog style since 2012, but his experience with the music industry goes way back to his days in Chicago in the 1970s working as a concert promoter. The great thing about MusicTAP is that it’s a fantastic source for album release news (on CD, vinyl, digital, and lossless), as well as remaster news, tour news, even the occasional interview. More importantly, though, I’ve been Matt’s friend for more than 20 years and I can attest from first-hand experience that he has an amazing ability to sniff out and point you towards great new artists and bands that you might not ever hear about otherwise. For example, the first time I ever heard about bands like Heartless Bastards, Wolfmother, Babyshambles, Bloc Party, The Boxer Rebellion, The Enemy UK, Forward Russia, The Rifles, Rock Kills Kid, SilverSun Pickups, White Lies, and Wye Oak was when Matt called me up and said, “Hey, there’s this great new band that’s about to release their first album that you should hear...” The point is, Matt’s an amazing resource for discovering new artists before they ever get played on the radio, Pandora or Spotify. So if you love great music like we do, you should check out his MusicTAP site regularly. Trust me: You’ll be glad you did.

All right. That’s it for this week. I’m going to be working on my review of CBS’ Star Trek: The Next Generation – Season 7 Blu-ray over the weekend, so we hope to have that up on Monday.

With that, have a great weekend and peace out!
