Okay, we’ve got a couple things that should be of interest to some of you today…

First, we’ve confirmed with Fox that the new Robocop Blu-ray Disc due on 1/21 is remastered from a 4K transfer and it’s definitely the director’s cut version of the film.  Extras will include audio commentary with director Paul Verhoeven, writer Ed Neumeier and executive producer Jon Davison, deleted scenes, a new Q&A with the Filmmakers, the Flesh and Steel: The Making of Robocop documentary, 5 legacy featurettes (Shooting Robocop, Making Robocop, Villains of Old Detroit, Special Effects: Then and Now and Robocop: Creating a Legend), The Boardroom: Storyboard with commentary by animator Phil Tippett, an Easter egg, the theatrical trailer and a TV spot.  [Read on here…]

MGM and Fox has set the recent remake of Carrie for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/14.  Extras will include an alternate ending, commentary by director Kimberly Peirce, deleted and extended scenes with commentary, 3 featurettes (Bringing Back Carrie, The Power of Telekinesis and Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise) and the theatrical trailer.

Meanwhile, Anchor Bay and The Weinstein Company have set Lee Daniels’ The Butler for release on Blu-ray Combo, Blu-ray and DVD on 1/14 (SRP $39.99, $34.99 and $29.98).  Extras will include 2 featurettes (Lee Daniels’ The Butler: An American Story and The Original Freedom Riders), Gladys Knight and Lenny Kravitz’s You and I Ain’t Nothin’ No More music video, deleted scenes and a gag reel.

For you time lord fans, the BBC has just set Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor for Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and DVD on 12/10 (SRP $29.98 and $24.98).  Extras will include the Doctor Who Explained special, 2 mini episodes (The Night of the Doctor and The Last Day), a behind-the-scenes featurette, the San Diego Comic-Con trailer and a Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary tribute trailer.

ARC Entertainment has set Sweetwater for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/31 ($24.99 and $20.99).

Cinedigm has set the western The Virginian for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/7, based on the classic TV series.  Trace Adkins and Ron Perlman star – how’s that for a fascinating duo?

Sony will release the romantic comedy Austenland on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/11.

Any Hill Street Blues fans out there?  A company called Gaiam Americas has a Hill Street Blues: The Complete Series DVD box set coming on 3/25 (SRP $199.99).  Gaiam owns Vivendi and distributed product from a number of indie labels.  The set is now available on Amazon and one would expect an official announcement soon.

Finally, our own Russell Hammond has once again updated the Release Dates and Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD and Video Game cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links.  As always, a portion of anything you order from Amazon in the same session after clicking through to them from our links goes to help support our work here at The Bits and we really do appreciated it.  And remember that this is Cyber Monday Week, so there continue to be good deals to be had on Amazon.

Back tomorrow with more.  Stay tuned…
