We’ve got two more new disc reviews for you today here at The Bits...

Stephen has taken a look at The Films of Doris Wishman: The Twilight Years on Blu-ray from AGFA, Something Weird, and Vinegar Syndrome, a three-disc set that includes seven exploitation films that Wishman directed between 1970 and 1977.

And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Gordon Hessler’s The Oblong Box (1969), an American International Pictures film on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

As for today’s release news, let’s start with the big announcement up front: Lionsgate has just officially set Russell Mulcahy’s Highlander: Director’s Cut (1986) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 12/13, just as we expected.

Based on a new restoration done by StudioCanal, the disc will feature Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10 high dynamic range, along with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound.

Two versions will be available, a wide release 4K in Amaray packaging and a Best Buy-exclusive Steelbook. Each will include the film on Ultra HD and Blu-ray, along with a selection of four art cards. [Read on here...]

Extras on the 4K disc will include The Immortal Attraction of Highlander, A Kind of Magic: Music of the Immortals, There Can Only Be One Kurgan, Capturing Immortality, and a trio of audio commentaries (one with Mulcahy, another with Mulcahy joined by Peter Davis and William Panzer, and third by Jon Melville). To this, the Blu-ray will add interviews with Mulcahy and Christopher Lambert, The Making of Highlander, deleted scenes, an archival interview with Lambert, and the theatrical trailer. A Digital copy code will also be included. You can see the cover artwork above left, and here are a pair of open packaging shots (the second is the Best Buy exclusive)...

Lionsgate has also set Gigi & Nate and Pearl for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 11/15, and they’ve delayed Ghosts: Season One (Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital) and Origins of Hip-Hop (DVD) to 11/29.

In other news today, Neon has set Brett Morgen’s David Bowie documentary Moonage Daydream for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/15 in the US, via Distribution Solutions. Meanwhile, the UK will get a Blu-ray and DVD on 12/5, followed by a 4K Ultra HD version on 3/31 (click here to see the listing).

We’ve also learned that Paramount will be releasing the Amazon Prime original series Reacher: Season One on Blu-ray (and possibly DVD as well) early next year, but we don’t yet have a street date. We actually wouldn’t be surprised to see this one get an eventual 4K Ultra HD release too, given its high streaming ratings, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, Paramount has officially set Jerry & Marge Go Large for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/15, with the Digital release due on 10/18. This was a Paramount+ original film starring Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening as a retired couple who figures out how to beat the lottery. It’s funny and has also done quite well via streaming.

And we’ve got a better look today at the cover artwork for Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction in 4K Ultra HD from retail sources. It appears that both the regular Amaray and Steelbook 4K SKUs will be wide-release on 12/6 from Paramount. Watch for an official announcement soon. Here’s the open Steelbook cover, and you can see the 2D art for that and the regular Amaray version below...

Pulp Fiction (Steelbook 4K Ultra HD)

Also today, Deaf Crocodile Films (via Vinegar Syndrome) will release Karen Shakhnazarov’s satire Zerograd (aka Zero City) (1988) on Blu-ray on 10/25.

And Mill Creek Entertainment is releasing That ‘70s Show: The Complete Series on DVD as a Walmart-exclusive release on 10/18. Also available widely today (10/4) on Blu-ray (in “Retro VHS” packaging) are The Cure, Shadowlands, The Replacement Killers, and The Paper.

We’ll leave you with a look at that cover art we mentioned above. Amazon pre-order links for all but Pulp Fiction are now available (just click on the covers)...
