Well... I'm spending this first day of the new week, post Memorial Day, to get myself settled into a new computer. After years of loyal service, my old PC revealed a terminal flaw back in December, so I bought a new one that I'm affectionately calling the WOPR. But as I've been incredibly busy of late, getting all my files moved over and organized, and getting all the needed software installed and whatnot, has taken several months. So forgive me if today's update is a quick one as I finish up that process.

We have a bunch of reviews we're working on for posting hopefully this week, including Universal's new classic Battlestar Galactica box set. Meanwhile, we have a quick release news update for you.  [Read on here…]

First up, Lionsgate has set Slow West for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/7, starring Michael Fassbender. Lionsgate also has Black Box, The White Storm, and A La Mala coming to DVD and digital  on 8/4.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set Powers: The Complete First Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/14. Sony will also release the documentary Merchants of Doubt on Blu-ray Combo pack and digital on 7/7.

Alchemy has set Survivor for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/23. The film stars Pierce Brosnan and Milla Jovovich.

BBC Home Entertainment has set the new Shark documentary for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/14. It's part of their BBC Earth series of releases.

Here's something terrific: Warner Archive has set Sunshine Boys, starring Walter Matthau and George Burns, for Blu-ray release on 6/16 (SRP $19.97). Also newly available this week from Warner Archive are Thank Your Lucky Stars (1943) on Blu-ray, and Bronco: The Complete Fourth Season (1962-62), Robin Hood of El Dorado (1963 – a William Wellman film), This Man's Navy (1945 – also a Wellman film), The Secret Partner (1961), Once a Thief (1965), Signpost to Murder (1965), and The Maltese Bippy (1969 – a Rowan and Martin comedy) on DVD.

Meanwhile, Warner Home Video proper has set The Casual Vacancy for Blu-ray, DVD and digital release on 8/4, adapted from J.K. Rowling's novel. The Blu-ray will include 3 featurettes (An Introduction to The Casual Vacancy, Adapting The Casual Vacancy, and Casting The Casual Vacancy).

And Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Slash: Live at the Roxy – 9/25/14 on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/16.

Also today, Bits reader Jody F. has reminded us that Mondo (of Alamo Drafthouse fame) is working with Target to release a set of Target-exclusive Blu-ray Steelbook packages featuring Mono artwork. The discs are the same as those previously released, but the Steelbooks are gorgeous. The two most recent releases include Shawn of the Dead and Flash Gordon. Click here and here for details. (Thanks, Jody!)

Also today, a number of you have asked what's up with the anticipated U.S. Blu-ray release of What We Do in the Shadows, which was supposed to happen on 5/19 according to my contacts associated with the film. Well, obviously that date came and went and the title is still MIA. My guess is that the title is still coming, just delayed. We've asked for official clarification and will let you know as soon as we hear anything back.

Here's a look at more newly released Blu-ray Disc cover artwork, with Amazon.com pre-order links if available...

Sunshine Boys (Blu-ray Disc)    Slow West (Blu-ray Disc)    Survivor (Blu-ray Disc)

Stay tuned...
