Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, plus Guardians 4K review, Easy Rider in 4K Digital only & more

by

I’ve posted my thoughts on Disney and Marvel’s new Guardians of the Galaxy release on 4K Ultra HD this morning. This following yesterday’s review of Doctor Strange on the format.

And yes, you can expect my review of Ant-Man in 4K today.

Tim is also working on a review of Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home in 4K, so watch for that soon.

Next up on my review plate are Warner’s Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shining in 4K, so watch for at least one of them tomorrow (and both by next week).

In announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that Easy Rider is now available in Digital 4K with HDR on various streaming platforms in honor of the film’s 50th anniversary. There appear to be no plans to release it on physical 4K. [Read on here...]

Sony has also revealed that it plans to release Little Women on Digital 4K with HDR on 12/3 in honor of that film’s 25th anniversary. Again, it appears that no physical release is planned.

Here’s a bit of good news for physical 4K fans: Lionsgate has just set producer Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 11/5, with the Digital release due on 10/22. Extras will include 6 featurettes (The Bellows Construct, Creature from the Shadows, Mood Reels, Behind-the-Scenes Trailers: Set Visits, Dark Tales, and Retro Horror). The 4K will offer Dolby Vision HDR. There will also be a Best Buy-exclusive Steelbook of the 4K.

Lionsgate has also made Red Heat official for 4K Ultra HD release on 10/29, with Dolby Vision HDR.

And Lionsgate will release Them That Follow on DVD only on 10/29.

Scream Factory has set The Fan for Blu-ray release on 11/19, with new extras that include Number One Fan (an interview with actor Michael Biehn), Fan Service (an interview with director Edward Bianchi), Fanning the Flames (an interview with editor Alan Heim), and audio commentary (with cult film director David DeCoteau and film historian David Del Valle, moderated by Scream Factory marketing director Jeff Nelson). You’ll also get the film’s theatrical trailer, TV spots, and a still gallery.

Shudder and RLJE Films will release Gwen on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/8.

And Milestone Films will release Billy Woodberry’s Bless Their Little Hearts on DVD on 10/22.

Here’s a look at Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark on disc and The Fan...
