Universal reveals a 4-film/4K Jurassic Park: 25th Collection, plus Talking Blu on Star Wars: The Last Jedi!

by

All right, this is just a quick post today with some big release news and updates...

First, Tim’s got a stack of Blu-ray titles he’s working his way through for review, while I’ve got reviews of Three Billboards, Dark Crystal, and Murder on the Orient Express in 4K Ultra HD all in the works. So watch for those to start going up tomorrow and Monday. And sometime late next week… Justice League 4K.

Also here at The Bits, today, we’ve got a new update for you of the Release Dates & Artwork section with lots of fresh Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover art and Amazon pre-order links. Remember, whenever you shop Amazon through our links, it makes a big difference for us here in terms of keeping The Bits going. So thank you for doing so!

Now then... the big news today is more 4K: Universal has just revealed its 4-film/8-disc Jurassic Park: 25th Anniversary Collection for release on 5/22 (SRP $79.88), which will include Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, Jurassic Park III, and Jurassic World each on both 4K UHD and Blu-ray. The 4K discs will each be movie only, while the Blu-rays will include all the previous bonus content. Obviously, there will be digital copy codes for each film as well. It looks like High Dynamic Range will be HDR10 on 4K (but we’re waiting to see if there’s Dolby Vision too). It also looks like audio is going to be English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio on both BD and 4K, but we need to see the studio’s official press release to confirm that. I want to be very clear: This information leaked to retailers first, so we don’t have the official press release yet (though it’s clear the information on the Amazon listing comes straight from Uni). But we do expect it to be officially announced at any time. We’ll update this post with final details as they come in.

In any case, you can see the cover artwork above left and also below, and you can pre-order it by clicking here or on the cover art below...

Jurassic Park: 25th Anniversary Collection (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) The Greatest Showman (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) The Patriot (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray)

Braveheart (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) Gladiator (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) 2001: A Spacey Odyssey (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray)

As you can see, we’ve also posted the final cover art for Fox’s The Greatest Showman in 4K, along with TEMP cover art for some of the other major newly-revealed and upcoming 4K titles, some of which are now available for pre-order on Amazon too.

Finally today, we’re pleased to bring you a new episode of our joint webcast with the folks at Midnight’s Edge: Talking Blu with The Digital Bits! In this episode, Andre, Tom, Tim, and I discuss Star Wars: The Last Jedi, both the film and also Disney’s recent announcement of the 4K Ultra HD version – the first time any Star Wars film has been released on this format – and we get into the nitty-gritty about what makes 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray such a great new format. Whether you agree with the four of us on the film itself, we think you’ll find the 4K discussion interesting. Anyway, here it is. We hope you like it – and please share it on your social media if you do!

Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned...
