All right, we’ve got a great piece of release news for you today, but first… we face the end of an era…

I’m sad to say that our dear friend and family member, Dr. Adam Jahnke, the inventor of the peanut butter-based scratch proof coating himself, is officially retiring from The Bits[Read on here…]

Jahnke joined up with us way back in 2000, when we were all still young and idealistic, and the Golden Age of Discs had only just begun. Over the years he’s written hundreds of film reviews and in-depth columns here, all of which will remain on The Bits indefinitely as a lasting record of his work and effort. It goes without saying that Jahnke is an insightful scholar of the cinema, a brilliant writer, and an extraordinary talent. But his real legacy here at The Bits is this: He’s become a lifelong friend, a comrade-in-arms, and yes… a brother.

Though we’re certainly going to miss him around here, this is far from the end of our association. Jahnke, Doogan and I have been working on a number side projects together these last few years, so you never know where our work together may crop up again. We’ll certainly let you know. Meanwhile...

Adam… we love you, we support you 100%, and we wish you success in all your future endeavors. We’re enormously proud of you, sir! Keep on keeping it level.

Jahnke’s got a few last words of his own for all of you here in his final Jahnke’s Electric Theater column. Do give it a read. And feel free to drop him a line on his Facebook page to thank him for all his hard work.

Now then… as Fate would have it, the world continues turning. So on that good piece of release news I mentioned a minute ago…

We’ve confirmed with Universal Studios Home Entertainment that they are going to be releasing the classic Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series on Blu-ray here in the States in the months ahead. Very likely this is going to be a Region A/English version of the same set that’s been available in German for months now (and which we reviewed here on The Bits). We’re told to expect an official announcement sometime before the end of the year, which would mean the street date is likely to be sometime early in 2015. Rest assured, we’ll keep you all up to date.

Finally today, our very own Todd Doogan has a new installment of his Doogan’s Queue available for you all to check out. This week Todd talks about a great new book project from Clive Barker and of course he runs down all this week’s best Blu-ray and DVD releases. Don’t miss it.

And that’s all for now. Stay tuned…
