Paramount has also set new Steelbook Blu-ray releases of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty in Pink, and Some Kind of Wonderful for 8/6, in honor of Ferris Bueller’s 35th anniversary. (Speaking of which, Ferris ought to be released on 4K Ultra HD. Just saying.)
This is in addition to the new 4K-remastered Blu-ray release of Brian De Palma’s original Mission: Impossible on 5/18, a release set in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary.
Meanwhile today, MVD has revealed more new MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray titles for release in July, including The House on Sorority Row and Mortuary (1983) on 7/6, and The Go-Go Boys: The Inside Story of Cannon Films on 7/20.
Indicator Films has set new BD standard editions of Stranglers of Bombay, Terror of the Tongs, Yesterday’s Enemy, and Camp on Blood Island for release on 7/2.
And ClassicFlix has set The Little Rascals: The ClassicFlix Restorations, Volume 2 for release on Blu-ray on 7/29.
In 4K Ultra HD news, Arrow Video has set a singled-disc standard edition of Tremors for 4K release next week, on 4/6.
And a recent Best Buy customer survey of which titles they would prefer on 4K Steelbook leaked word that Paramount is likely bringing Galaxy Quest and Tommy Boy to 4K Ultra HD later this year. Galaxy Quest in 4K would certainly be great news, though we sincerely hope the studio finally uncensors Sigourney Weaver’s F-bomb at the end of the film. By Grabthar’s Hammer, what a relief that would be to fans of the film! I mean, seriously… it’s one F-bomb. I get that it made sense when they were trying to go for a PG theatrical rating, but it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard for most fans. I bet if they did finally uncensor it for the film’s 4K release, sales of the title would double just because. And if anyone would like to politely ask Paramount to finally uncensored that line in any future BD or 4K release, you can do so here on their Twitter.
Finally today, heads-up for all you convention goers: It appears that San Diego Comic-Con may finally return as a live, in-person, 3-day event at the San Diego Convention Center for Thanksgiving weekend later this year (11/26-28). But, that’s just a terrible date. And I wouldn’t be surprised if some new COVID surge derails those plans. I would imagine much is going to depend on how many (and how quickly) Americans get their COVID vaccinations over the coming months. Anyway, you can read more here.
Sarah and I actually got our first shots here in SoCal this past week, and it feels pretty good to know that we’re on the way to some kind of protection from this blasted virus. Speaking of which, if you’re looking for COVID vaccination appointments in your area, try checking with your local pharmacy’s website. I’m hearing from a lot of friends, family, and Bits readers that they’re having success finding open appointments that way.
