All right, we’re starting the week with a new Blu-ray review from Tim Salmons, who has checked out Criterion’s The Kid for you today. Do give it a look.

I’m currently working on my reviews of Batman v Superman, Watchmen, and Man of Steel in 4K, but it might take a few days to get them finished. Sarah and I have had a never-ending stream of family visitors here in SoCal this summer, so it’s been tricky to get a lot of work done. Big release news today: Warner Home Video has just officially announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on 4/8. There’s a Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack (SRP $35.99), a Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack (SRP $44.95) and a rental DVD version (priced at $22.97). This is of course the theatrical version of the film. Extras on both Blu-ray versions will include Production Videos, New Zealand: Home of Middle-Earth, Part 2 and something called Peter Jackson Invites You to the Set. There’s no word yet on the forthcoming BD and BD3D release of the Extended Edition of the film, but if the past is any predictor (and it usually is) look for those to street on either 11/4 or 11/11. We’ve got a couple of new Blu-ray Disc reviews for you this afternoon.  Our own Tim Salmons has given RLJ’s Barrymore a good looking over for you and found it worth your attention, while Doogan’s saved you all the trouble of watching Anchor Bay’s The Amazing Adventures of the Living Corpse Blu-ray by taking the hit to his intelligence of your behalf.  So there you go.

Also today, Michael Coate has turned in a new installment of his History, Legacy and Showmanship column featuring a look back at George Lucas’ American Graffiti on the occasion of its 40th anniversary today.  Enjoy!  […]
