So the big news today is that Warner Home Video has announced their Batman 75th Anniversary celebration plans. As many of you know, the character first appeared in the comic book Detective Comics #27, which hit newsstands on March 30, 1939. That makes this Sunday the character’s official 75th Anniversary. And if the deliberate leak by WHV earlier this year (with assist by Conan O’Brien) wasn’t official enough, the studio has now confirmed that the classic Adam West and Burt Ward Batman ‘66 TV series will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD this year, though they are still yet to announce a street date (we suspect you’ll hear more at Warner’s Batman 75th panel at WonderCon in Anaheim next month, or at San Diego Comic-Con in July). Warner has also set the all-new animated films Son of Batman for release on BD/DVD on 5/6, followed by Assault on Arkham this summer. Warner also has a pair of new animated shorts coming this year from Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) and Darwyn Cooke (Batman Beyond). You’ll get a new Batman: 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release of the Tim Burton film. Obviously, there’s the new Gotham TV series coming to FOX later this year. And production begins this year on the new Batman vs. Superman feature film. Lotta Batman for one year. We’d sure love to see the Bruce Timm animated series find its way to Blu-ray this year, but no sign of it yet. Anyway... [Read on here...]

All right, just a quick one today as there’s not a ton of news...

First, Tim’s turned in two more Scream Factory Blu-ray reviews for you to check out: The Incredible Melting Man and Witchboard. Enjoy!

Definitely the big release announcement today is that Warner Home Video has set Spike Jonze’s Her for Blu-ray Combo, DVD and digital release on 5/13 (SRP $35.99 for the Blu-ray). Extras on the Blu-ray will include 3 featurettes (The Untitled Rick Howard Project, How Do You Share Your Life with Somebody, and Her: Love in the Modern Age).  [Read on here...]

First up today, Dr. Jahnke has turned in a new An Honor to Be Nominated installment of his regular Jahnke’s Electric Theater column here at The Bits, taking a look back at the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man. It’s a good read about a film that we here at The Bits happen to think is one of the Coens’ best. Anyway, Jahnke’s take is definitely worth your time, so do check it out. Enjoy!

We’ve also got more new announcement news today, but first... for those of you interested in the new Cosmos TV series on Fox, the title just went pup for pre-order on Amazon.com. As we first reported last week here in The Bits, 20th Century Fox is currently working on the release, which we expect to be announced for Blu-ray and DVD in the weeks ahead. You’ll find Fox’s preliminary cover art below. [Read on here...]

First up today, our very own Todd Doogan has checked in with a review of Spike Lee’s recent Americanized remake of Park Chan-wook’s 2003 Korean action-thriller Oldboy, which was itself adapted from a Japanese manga from the late 1990s. The Lee film is now available on Blu-ray from Sony. Turns out it’s... interesting. Check out Todd’s review - he’ll tell you all about it.

In release news today, select retail sources have reported to us that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is gearing up to release a number of Godzilla double-feature Blu-rays on 5/6 (SRP $19.99 each) as part of Godzilla’s 60th anniversary celebration this year. A quick search, reveals that Amazon.com is already taking pre-orders (see the following title links). Among them are Godzilla: Final Wars (2004)/Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003), Godzilla vs. Destroyah (1995)/Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000), Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)/Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (1992), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)/Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994). We’re working to confirm this officially with the studio, so stay tuned. We’ll update here as soon as we hear back.  [Read on here…]

We’ve got more release news for you today...

First, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Mike Newell’s Great Expectations on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/15. Extras will include a piece on the premiere and the film’s trailer.

Speaking of Fox, we’ve officially confirmed that TCFHE is working on a Blu-ray and DVD release of the new Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey science TV series, hosted by our favorite astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Inspired by Carl Sagan’s original Cosmos: A Personal Voyage from the 1980s (see our DVD review here), the new 13-episode sequel premieres this coming Sunday on Fox, NatGeo and a whole host of related cable channels. You can find all the details here. From the visuals I’ve seen so far, this show should blow the doors off Blu-ray. There’s no street date yet, but we would imagine Fox will announce the title in the next month or two, timed for release shortly after the series wraps up its broadcast run. [Read on here...]
