I’m working on a few more of those Ultra HD reviews for posting over the next couple days, so today’s update is going to be brief. But we do have a few interesting items for you today...
First up, our own Tim Salmons has just kicked off his latest installments of his Dailies: Pick-Ups column. This week, Tim’s going to catch up with a few great Blu-ray titles from our friends at Arrow Video, the first of which is Buddy Cooper’s The Mutilator (1985). Do give it a look. [Read on here…]
Buster Keaton, Pelham, Journey to Space, Seven Samurai 4K, new Shout, Kino & Olive & MUCH more

Okay, we’re rounding out the week with a little title announcement catch-up. My plan had been to post a new UHD review each day all week, but then of course it became obvious that the Star Wars Blu-ray announcement was about to happen and that threw off the plan, as such things often do. I do have a review of Sony’s 4K UHD Blu-ray of Chappie in the works, which is a true 4K title, and I’ll have that for you Monday. Look for more UHD reviews next week as well.
That said, our own Tim Salmons has just posted a review of one of my favorite films of 2015, Ryan Coogler’s Creed, which is now available on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video. It’s a great film with tons of heart – a Rocky sequel that actually stands on its own beautifully. Stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone really shine in it. Do give it a look. While I’m gathering my final thoughts on my experience of Ultra HD Blu-ray at CES 2016 last week (to wrap up our coverage of the convention), I wanted to jump in quickly today to take care of a couple important pieces of business here at The Bits.
First, our own Tim Salmons has turned in his thoughts on Arrow Video’s new Blood Rage: Special Edition Blu-ray.
I’ve also just posted my in-depth review of Ridley Scott’s The Martian, which streets tomorrow on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD. The film just took home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical Film of all things. Don’t miss it. [Read on here…]

The Blu-ray will include the exclusive Riley’s First Date? animated short film, as well as the LAVA theatrical short film. Other extras will include 7 featurettes (Story of the Story, Paths to Pixar: The Women of Inside Out, Mixed Emotions, Mapping the Mind, Our Dads, the Filmmakers, Into the Unknown: The Sound of Inside Out, and The Misunderstood Art of Animation Film Editing), 4 deleted scenes (Riley Grows Up, Joy’s Decline, Misdirection, and Construction), audio commentary with directors Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen, and producer Jonas Rivera, the Mind Candy toolkit/interstitials montage, and trailers. Well... we’re kicking off a new week here today and this is a big one: The first full trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII is going to be unveiled at Star Wars Celebration on Thursday, ahead of its public debut attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron later this month. We don’t know if the trailer will be released online before then, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Here at The Bits today, we’ve got a new Blu-ray review for you. Todd Doogan has given Grindhouse Releasing’s new 3-disc Blu-ray edition of Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond (1981) a look for you. Sounds like the set is absolutely loaded with great content. Also, our own Joe Marchese turned in a look at Twilight Time’s new BD of Stormy Weather (1943) on Friday, in case you missed it. We’re working on more BD reviews over the next few days, so be sure to check back. [Read on here…]
