All right, the big new today is something you’ve no doubt already heard: Bond 24 begins shooting on Monday and it will officially be called SPECTRE. Very nice choice. The cast is also going to include Christoph Waltz, Andrew Scott, Monica Bellucci, and Dave Batista. You can watch a replay of the official announcement video here.  [Read on here…]

Speaking of Bond, for a very limited time Fox Home Entertainment (via Fox Connect) is having a crazy insane sale on the 23-film Bond 50 Blu-ray box set – just $75 with free shipping. With tax that works out to like $3.50 per film. Clearly, the deal is in honor of the SPECTRE announcement, so take advantage fast if you’re interested.

In announcement news today, Warner Home Video has set a new Musicals: 4-Movie Collection Blu-ray set for release on 3/3 (SRP $34.99), featuring The Band Wagon, Calamity Jane, Kiss Me Kate, and Singin’ in the Rain. The Band Wagon, Calamity Jane, and Kiss Me Kate will also be available separately on Blu-ray that same day for $19.98 (Singin’ in the Rain has been available for a while now). Kiss Me Kate will include both Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D.

Meanwhile, Universal has set Nightcrawler, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/10. That same day they’ll also release Kill the Messenger, starring Jeremy Renner and Robert Patrick.

Twilight Time is re-releasing Fright Night on Blu-ray as a new 30th Anniversary Edition. Also coming soon is Breaking Away (1979), The Bride Wore Black (1968), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), and Bandit Queen (1994).

Scream Factory has changed Exterminators of the Year 3000 to a stand-alone BD release in 2015, as the Bruno Mattei film Cruel Jaws, as the latter includes unauthorized footage from Jaws 1-3 and other films that would cause serious legal issues.

Scream does, however, have a bunch of other great titles coming in 2015, including Phantom of the Opera (due 2/17), New Year’s Evil (due 2/24), Blacula/Scream Blacula Scream (3/3), Dog Soldiers: Collector’s Edition (3/10), and Dark Haul (3/10). Planned for April release (street dates TBA) are Invaders from Mars, Ghoulies/Ghoulies II, Carrie/The Rage: Carrie II, and a Class of 1984: Collector’s Edition. And that’s just to start. Two more big Collector’s Editions are on the way for next summer - details TBA.

Shout! Factory, on the other hand, has The Sure Thing coming on 3/24. A stand-alone BD release of Werner Herzog’s Aguirre, The Wrath of God streets on 3/17.

Also today, Blue Underground has set Luigi Bazzoni’s Man, Pride and Vengeance for BD release on 3/24.

Here’s a bunch more new Blu-ray cover artwork…

 Musicals 4-Film Collection (Blu-ray Disc)    Kiss Me Kate (Blu-ray 3D)    Dragonheart 3 (Blu-ray Disc)

Nightcrawler (Blu-ray Disc)    The Sure Thing (Blu-ray Disc)    Exterminators of the Year 3000 (Blu-ray Disc)

Breaking Away (Blu-ray Disc)    Fright Night: 30th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray Disc)    Man, Pride and Vengeance (Blu-ray Disc)

Finally, just a quick heads-up: We’re working on a bunch of new Blu-ray reviews for you guys – some classics, some Trek… you can probably count on a Guardians of the Galaxy review very soon, etc. So stay tuned!
