Jurassic Park: Dominion is finally official for 8/16, plus Reservoir Dogs in 4K, Shout! & Henson ink distribution deal & more

by

We’ve got a great new disc review for you this afternoon, and we’ve got some significant release news to report as well. First up, that review...

Tim has just turned in his in-depth look at Rod Serling’s Night Gallery: Season Two (1971-1972) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics as expected. Sounds like it’s another great release that’s loaded with special features, including audio commentary on many episodes. Don’t miss it.

Now then... file this in the “better late than never” category, but Universal has finally made their Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and Digital release of Colin Treverrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion official, and it is indeed expected to street next Tuesday (8/16). Extras on the Blu-ray SKUs will include the Battle at Big Rock short film, the A New Breed of VFX featurette, and the multi-part Dinosaurs Among Us: Inside Jurassic World Dominion 45-minute documentary. You’ll also get both the Theatrical Version and a new 14-minute longer Extended Edition, which includes an alternate opening and more.

Both Blu-ray SKUs will include DTS-X object-based surround sound, and the 4K Ultra HD release will feature both HDR10 and Dolby Vision high dynamic range. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

Universal is also releasing a new Jurassic World: 6-Movie Ultimate Collection on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 8/16, which will include the original Jurassic Park, plus The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and of course Jurassic World: Dominion. Again, you can see the cover artwork below.

Also today, we’ve learned that Lionsgate is going to be releasing Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs on 4K Ultra HD on 11/15.

And Vinegar Syndrome has set The Incredible Melting Man (1977) and a wide-release SKU of Cloak & Dagger (1984) for 4K Ultra HD release on 9/27.

In wider industry news this afternoon, Shout! Factory has just inked a new worldwide distribution deal with The Jim Henson Company which will include both streaming and physical media. As part of this new arrangement, Shout! will release Farscape and its miniseries sequel/finale Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars on Blu-ray Disc. Other titles included in this deal include The Storyteller: Greek Myths, Jim Henson’s World of Puppetry, Monster Maker, Lighthouse Island, Living with Dinosaurs, Dog City, Ghost of Faffner Hall, The Fearing Mind, Mopatop’s Shop, and Brats of the Lost Nebula. You can read more on this here at Deadline Hollywood. Thanks to Bits reader Michael P. for the heads up on this.

One more: Warner Bros. has apparently nixed yet another DC Comics property that was in development for HBO Max: Strange Adventures. You can read more on that here at The Hollywood Reporter.

And finally today, we must take a moment to acknowledge the passing of singer/actor Olivia Newton-John and writer David McCullough.

Olivia Newton-John was perhaps best known to film fans for her role in Randal Kleiser’s musical Grease (1978), alongside co-star John Travolta, not to mention the musical-fantasy Xanadu (1980). And of course she was a hugely-successful and Grammy Award-winning singer in the 1970s and 80s. Newton-John was 73. You can read more here at CNN.

David McCullough was an acclaimed author considered by many to be America’s historian. Home video fans will certainly recognize his voice as the narrator of Ken Burns’ The Civil War documentary series. His book John Adams was the basis for the HBO miniseries of the same name. Other terrific books by McCullough include 1776 and The Wright Brothers. He was 89. More here at PBS.

All right, we’ll leave you with a look at the cover art for a couple of the titles mentioned above and more, all with Amazon.com pre-order links (just click on the images). Note that the Reservoir Dogs art is temp only...
