Mission: Impossible – Fallout date, Zatoichi, Twilight’s October, Candyman, Critters Collection & more

by

First things first today... we have no less than four new Blu-ray reviews for you to check out.

Tim has given John Carpenter’s Memoirs of an Invisible Man a look on disc from Scream Factory. David Steigman has checked in with his thoughts on Take a Girl Like You (1970) from Twilight Time. And Dennis Sueling has turned in his thoughts on Kino’s The Maids (1975) and Olive Film’s Streets of Vengeance.

Also today, we’ve just learned from our retail sources that Mission: Impossible – Fallout is expected to street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 12/4. Best Buy will have an exclusive Steelbook version. Adjust your plans accordingly. We’ve updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

By the way, before y’all start freaking out: This is very likely TEMP cover artwork (at left and also below) for use by retailers for pre-orders. Don’t assume it’s final until Paramount finally announces the title. [Read on here...]

Speaking of 4K, Marvel and Disney’s The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron are both now available for pre-order on Amazon.com in 4K Ultra HD. Click on the title links or on the cover artwork below.

There’s been some confusion as to whether Tokyo Shock was going to actually release Zatoichi (1989) on Blu-ray on 8/21 or not. It was up on Amazon, then it got taken down, but now it’s back and you can actually pre-order the title. Click here or on the cover artwork below for that one too.

In announcement news today... our friends at Twilight Time have revealed their complete slate limited edition Blu-ray titles of titles for August, September, and October. The first two months have already been revealed, but just to recap: August will include Gloria (1980), The Virgin Soldiers (1969), The Hot Rock (1972), and Rapid Fire (1992) on 8/21. September will include The Last Hurrah (1958), In My Country (2004), The Other Side of Midnight (1977), and The Bravados (1958) on 9/18. And finally, October will include Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960), The Adventures of Hajji Baba (1954), Black Widow (1954), and Short Night of Glass Dolls (1971) on 10/16. As always, you’ll be able to pre-order them on Screen Archives Entertainment and Twilight Time Movies.

Also today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set Lake Placid: Legacy for release on DVD and Digital on 9/4. They also have Director X’s new Superfly remake coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/11, with the Digital release due on 8/28.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set A Christmas Story Live! for DVD release on 11/13, with the Blu-ray version coming from The Warner Archive that same day.

And the good people over at Scream Factory have revealed the cover artwork for Candyman (due 11/20) and The Critters Collection on Blu-ray (due 11/27). Here you go...

Candyman (Blu-ray Disc)

The Critters Collection (Blu-ray Disc)

Finally, are any of you guys Venture Bros. fans? Not only does the show come back to Adult Swim on Sunday night (8/5), there’s a great new book about the series that just streeted. It’s called Go Team Venture! The Art and Making of The Venture Bros. from Dark Horse. And it is a hefty coffee-table tome, believe me. It’s terrific, not just because the series is, but because it’s 376 pages and like 5 pounds of rare artwork and interview goodness. Our very own Bits alum Todd Doogan even gets a fancy shout-out from series co-creator Jackson Public. You can find the book here on Amazon (and also below) for just $28.

Here’s the cover art for Zatoichi, both Avengers 4K titles, Mission: Impossible – Fallout in 4K, Batman: The Animated Series, and that Venture Bros. book (click to pre-order them on Amazon.com)...

Zatoichi (1989) (Blu-ray Disc) The Avengers (4K Ultra HD) The Avengers: Age of Ultron (4K Ultra HD)

Mission: Impossible - Fallout (4K Ultra HD) Batman: The Animated Series (Blu-ray Disc) Go Team Venture!: The Art and Making of The Venture Bros. (book)

Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned...
