Lone Ranger & Monsters Uni pre-orders on Amazon, plus Chucky box, Olympus & Gatchaman

by

Okay… we’ve got some quick post-holiday release news updates for you guys…

First up, Amazon.com is now taking pre-orders for Disney’s The Lone Ranger on Blu-ray/DVD Combo.  SRP is $44.99 but Amazon has it available for $26.99.  No street date yet, but expect it to be announced sometime in the next few weeks.  Same drill for Disney and Pixar’s Monsters University (see cover artwork below).

Also, a lot of you have asked whether Warner’s The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition sports new transfers for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on Blu-ray which many of you feel badly need new transfers.  Don’t know, but we’re certainly asking.

Meanwhile, Universal has officially set Curse of Chucky for release on Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 10/8.  Extras will include feature commentary with director Don Mancini, puppeteer Tony Gardner and star Fiona Dourif, 3 featurettes (Playing with Dolls: The Making of Curse of Chucky, Living Doll: Bringing Chucky to Life and Voodoo Doll: The Chucky Legacy), storyboard comparisons, deleted scenes and a gag reel.  Speaking of which, Universal will release Chucky: The Complete Collection – Limited Edition on Blu-ray that same day (SRP $84.98), featuring all six previous films in the series.

Sony has officially set Olympus Has Fallen for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 8/13.  Extras will include 5 featurettes (Under Siege: The Making of Olympus Has Fallen, The Epic Ensemble, Creating the Action: Visual FX & Design, Deconstructing the Black Hawk Sequence and Ground Combat: Fighting the Terrorists) and a blooper reel.

Shout! Factory has set John Sturges’ The Eagle Has Landed for Blu-ray release on 10/15.

Paramount and MTV have set Awkward: Seasons One & Two for DVD only release on 10/1.

Lionsgate has set Disconnect for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/17, followed by the Jason Statham actioner Redemption on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/24.

Wolfe Video will release Petunia on DVD only on 9/3.

IFC Films has announced Love and Honor and Welcome to the Punch for Blu-ray Disc release on 7/23.

A company called Section 23 will apparently be releasing the Gatchaman Complete Collection on Blu-ray on 10/29 (SRP $149.98), including "the previously unreleased Gatchaman OVAs."

And finally, Disney has officially acquired the Blu-ray, DVD and digital distribution rights to four Marvel titles that had previously been distributed by Paramount – Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.  Paramount will fulfill its existing commitments and then actual distribution will be gradually transferred to Disney over the next few months, for which Paramount paid an “undisclosed amount.”

Here’s a look at the Blu-ray cover art for Disney’s Monsters University (both versions), Paramount’s Stalag 17, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life and Airplane II (all 10/8 – distributed by WHV) and final official art for Sony’s Olympus Has Fallen

Monsters University (Blu-ray 3D)    Monsters University (Blu-ray Disc)    Stalag 17 (Blu-ray Disc)

Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (Blu-ray Disc)    Airplane II: The Sequel (Blu-ray Disc)    Olympus Has Fallen (final Blu-ray Disc art)

Stay tuned!
