This Will Be a Day Long Remembered

by

Afternoon, folks! I hope you’re all well (and staying safe from the zombie plague and whatnot).

This is just a quick update to say that we’ll be back with our normal news posts, reviews, and regular site business tomorrow.

You may have seen that I finished my in-depth review of the complete Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 4K Ultra HD box set yesterday here at The Bits—every film, every disc, and every extra.

The lack of news updates is due to the fact that—having finally completed my review—I’ve now begun a multi-day marathon of all 11 films. Because that’s really what this is all about, isn’t it? [Read on here...]

When I mentioned this on social media, some wondered, “Wait, I thought you just watched them all for the reviews!” As a professional film reviewer for nearly three decades now, trust me when I say that watching with your critical hat on for review purposes and watching for enjoyment are two very different things.

I began with the prequels on Saturday, watched Solo and Rogue One on Sunday, and the original trilogy yesterday. So today, I’m knocking out the most recent films of the sequel trilogy. As someone who first experienced Star Wars in a theater back in 1977 as a 10 year old, this is a marathon I’ve literally waited 43 years to experience.

I can safely say that I have never enjoyed watching the original Star Wars trilogy so much as I did yesterday in Ultra HD. And I can also confidently say that I’ve never experienced these films looking or sounding better, on a big projection screen in 4K with HDR and Atmos sound. They’re not perfect, of course, but what is? But boy did the films draw me in like never before. If you’re a longtime fan, this is a next level experience.

Anyway, I’m off to wrap this marathon up. Since the box set and the 4K singles officially street today, I would imagine that a lot of you are going to start marathons of your own... especially with so many of us stuck at home due to the ongoing pandemic. Trust me, you’re all in for a treat.

So... I’ll be back tomorrow. Until then, may the Force be with you.

Always!
