All right, it’s been a busy couple of days here at The Bits, and we’re starting as always with more new disc reviews for you to enjoy...

First up, Stephen has taken a look a pair of titles, including Matthew Bright’s Freeway (1996) in 4K Ultra HD from Vinegar Syndrome, along with Dan Wolman’s Maid in Sweden (1971) on Blu-ray from Code Red.

Also, Dennis has reviewed Richard Pearce’s No Mercy (1986) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And Tim has offered his thoughts on Douglas Grossman’s Hell High (1989) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video, along with the first film from Arrow’s fantastic Shawscope: Volume One Blu-ray box set. He’s working his way through the set title by title, and today he covers Jeong Chang-Hwa’s King Boxer (1972, aka Five Fingers of Death).

As always, more reviews are on the way all week, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for them. [Read on here...]

Now then, I promised on Friday that we’d have an update to Michael Coate’s retrospective look back at Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial—an addition to his recent History, Legacy and Showmanship piece on the film. And indeed we posted that last night. There are two additional pages of content (and the end of the piece) with stats on the original release, details of the film’s initial 70 mm run, quotes from movie reviewers of the period, and more. There are also a ton of new images scattered all throughout the piece. So if you haven’t checked it out yet, now’s the perfect time and we hope you really enjoy it.

The big release news today isn’t quite official in the sense that it hasn’t yet been announced by the studio with a press release, but the Disney Movie Club has just leaked word that the original animated classic Cinderella (1950) is coming to 4K Ultra HD from Disney this year as part of the studio’s 100th anniversary celebration!

The film is now available for pre-order on DMC in “Disney Movie Club Exclusive Format” with a collectible lithograph and a street date of 3/28. We believe that the 4K will also be available in a wide-release SKU on that same day, but we’re awaiting confirmation from the studio. The DMC package will include 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and a Digital code—it’s likely that the wide release will drop the DVD. Extras included on the Blu-ray are the same as before: The Tangled Ever After animated short, an alternate opening sequence, a gag reel, deleted scenes, the Bibbidi-Bobbidi-You Disney Second Screen experience, Behind the Magic: A New Disney Princess Fantasyland, and The Real Fairy Godmother. You can see the artwork from the Disney Movie Club here...

In other news today, our film historian friend Lee Pfeiffer has just shared pictures of an audio commentary recording session he was involved in for a forthcoming Blu-ray special edition release of Franklin J. Schaffner’s The Boys from Brazil (1978). You can see that on his Facebook page here.

MVD Entertainment has just revealed that the next title in their MVD Rewind Collection will be Tony Kandah and Martin Morris’s L.A. Wars (1994). You can see the cover artwork below.

Cauldron Films will release Stelvio Massi’s Convoy Busters (1978) on Blu-ray on 5/16.

And the Warner Archive Collection has just announced the Blu-ray release of George Cukor’s Camille (1936) and Daniel Mann’s I’ll Cry Tomorrow (1955) on 3/7.

Finally today, The 95th Academy Awards nominations have been made official this morning, which include All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking in the Best Picture category. You can see all the Oscar nominations here. The ceremony will be broadcast on Sunday, March 12th on ABC.

We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above and more (note the revised/updated artwork for Francis Ford Coppola’s B’Twixt Now and Sunrise). Click on the images to visit the relevant Amazon.com pre-order pages if available...
