Before we get started today, I wanted to say a big word of congratulations to my fellow Team Axanar members and friends, who won the Geekie Award last night in L.A. for Best Short Film for Prelude to Axanar! You can read my Blu-ray review of the film here (it’s now available for just $35 via the link in the review). If you guys think Prelude is great, just wait until you see what we’re cooking up for the full Axanar feature film next year!

Now then... we’re closing out the week with one more Halloween Hangover Blu-ray review for you: Tim’s look at the AIP Version of Mario Bava’s Black Sabbath (1963) from Kino Lorber. And Tim’s got a great BD review coming on Monday too that just might get you Army of Darkness fans excited. So be sure to check back for it.  [Read on here…]

The big announcement news today is that Disney and Marvel have just made Ant-Man official for release on Blu-ray 3D Combo, Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 12/8, with the digital versions due on 11/17. Audio on the Blu-ray versions will include English 7.1 DTS-HA Master Audio. As for the special features, look for audio commentary by director Peyton Reed and star Paul Rudd, deleted & extended scenes, a gag reel, and 3 documentary featurettes (Making of an Ant-Sized Heist: A How-To Guide, Let’s Go to the Macroverse, and WHIH NewsFront). You can see the cover art and trailer below.

Meanwhile, IFC Midnight and Scream Factory have set Bound to Vengeance for Blu-ray Combo release on 11/10.

Virgil Films has set Tap World and The Girls in the Band for DVD only release on 11/3, followed by A Tale of Two Thieves on DVD only on 11/10.

Severin Films is releasing a double feature of the 70s Grindhouse films Axe and Kidnapped Co-ed for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/8.

And Zeitgeist Films and Syncopy have provided details on what you can expect in their 11/24 Blu-ray release of The Quay Brothers: Collected Short Films (SRP $34.98). Included will be The Cabinet of Jan Švankmajer (1984), This Unnameable Little Broom (1985), Street of Crocodiles (1986), Rehearsals for Extinct Anatomies (1987), Stille Nacht I-IV (1988-94), The Comb (1990), Anamorphosis (1991), In Absentia (2000), The Phantom Museum (2003), Maska (2010), Through the Weeping Glass (2011), Unmistaken Hands (2013), and Quay a film by Christopher Nolan (2015), plus 6 commentary tracks by the Quay Brothers, and a 28-page booklet containing an updated Quay Dictionary and an introduction by Christopher Nolan.

A quick update on Fox’s The X-Files: The Complete Series Blu-ray (due 12/8): The set will soon be available on Amazon, the individual seasons will be available individually too in addition to the box set, and we’ve confirmed that the 2 X-Files feature films are not included in the US release of the set. So you’ll need to buy those separately if you want them (they’re cheap and available here).

Also today, NBC Universal has announced that they’re launching a new subscription VOD service for streaming comedy material. It’s called Seeso, and it will run you $3.99 a month. More here on Home Media.

Finally this afternoon, we’ll leave you with the big news: It’s looking very much like the final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will arrive this coming Monday night (10/19). Word is, it will debut during ESPN’s Monday Night Football game, then it will hit the Internet. Ticket sales for the film will reportedly begin then too. And according to reports, the final one sheet for the film will be revealed on Sunday. Watch Star for further details.

We’ll leave you with a look at a bunch of cool new Blu-ray cover art, with pre-order links if available...
