Just click on RELEASE DATES &  ART on the menu bar above to visit the page, and use the search options in the red bar (at the top) to sort by format and date. Once you find a title you like, just click on the cover art and you’ll be taken right to the Amazon.com pre-order page. Dennis’ review of Budd Boetticher’s The Killer is Loose (1956) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Tim’s reviews of Fred Walton’s April Fool’s Day (1986) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics and Arch Oboler’s Domo Arigato (1973) on Blu-ray 3D from BayView Entertainment with the help of the 3-D Film Archive.

And Stuart’s look at William A. Fraker’s Monte Walsh (1970) on Blu-ray, also from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Heads up, Bits readers!

I just wanted to jump in here this afternoon to share a bit of news and a bunch of new disc reviews that we’ve prepared for today.

First, I’m sure that most of you have seen today’s first news update here by now: Lucasfilm and Disney just announced the 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release of Ron Howard’s Willow (1988).

Call it a hunch, but I have a strong suspicion that this release is meant to set up a second 4K Steelbook release coming in 2025, specifically of the more recent Disney+ streaming series Willow (2022). That show was cancelled and pulled from Disney+, allegedly for cost-cutting reasons, and a good way to try to recoup a little of that investment would be to sell it on 4K disc and possibly Blu-ray. So I think that’s a pretty good possibility next year.

Meanwhile, here at the site today, we’ve just posted our weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section (you’ll find that here) featuring all of the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover and Amazon.com pre-order links. (Thanks to our own Russell Hammond for his work on that.)

Stephen has taken a look at Calin Cazan, Dan Chisovski, and Mircea Toia’s animated The Son of the Stars (1985) on Blu-ray from Deaf Crocodile and Vinegar Syndrome.

Dennis has checked in with his thoughts on Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale (2022) on Blu-ray from Lionsgate, a film that just netted star Brendan Fraser the Academy Award for Best Actor.

And Stuart has taken a look at Vincente Minelli’s The Long, Long Trailer (1954) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection, along with Ulli Lommel’s The Devonsville Terror (1983) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

Tim has posted his thoughts on Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop (1987) in 4K Ultra HD from Arrow Video, including a look at both the 4K Limited Edition and 4K Limited Edition Steelbook. Do give them a look.

Tim has also reviewed Billy Wilder’s The Apartment (1960) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And Stephen has checked in with his thoughts on Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen’s Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street documentary on Blu-ray from our friends at Vinegar Syndrome and ETR Media.

Boy, this is a big news day! We’ve got official word of titles we’ve been reporting on here at The Bits for many weeks now. So let’s get right to it...

First of all, Marvel Studios and Disney have just announced Avengers: Endgame for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/13, with the Digital release expected on 7/30. (And that is just as we predicted here on The Bits and have had listed in our 4K Ultra HD Release List here for quite a while.) Audio on the 4K will be Dolby Atmos, while the Blu-ray will feature 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Look for HDR10 on the 4K disc.

Extras will include audio commentary by directors Anthony and Joe Russo with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, 7 featurettes (Remembering Stan Lee, Setting the Tone: Casting Robert Downey Jr., A Man Out of Time: Creating Captain America, Black Widow: Whatever It Takes, The Russo Brothers: Journey to Endgame, The Women of the MCU, and Bro Thor), 6 Deleted Scenes (including Goji Berries, Bombs on Board, Suckiest Army in the Galaxy, You Used to Frickin’ Live Here, Tony and Howard, and Avengers Take a Knee), a Gag Reel, and an intro by directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The Digital version will also include an exclusive featurette... Steve and Peggy: One Last Dance. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got a big update for you today, with lots of news, a few rumors, and some announcements too. But first...

I’ve just posted my in-depth review of Shout! Factory’s long-awaited Space: 1999 – The Complete Series Blu-ray set, which marks the first time Year Two of the series has been available on the format here in the States. It includes all 48 remastered episodes (sourced from the recent Network remaster) with a bunch of legacy extras and some good new content too. You’ll find that here.

Also here at The Bits today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List with some new titles that we have reason to believe are coming (more on that in a minute), along with pre-orders for a couple of titles we’ve already confirmed are coming (Men in Black International and more). We also have a street date for Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 from our retail sources (tentatively look for it on 9/24). [Read on here...]

Today’s update is a quickie for a couple reasons...

1) I’m picking up my mother at the airport, here for a two-week visit from North Dakota. Also 2), Criterion just sent Sergei Bondarchuk’s War and Peace for review on Blu-ray.

Honestly, I’m not sure which of those is more of the priority today for me. (I’m kidding. Of course it’s War and Peace. LOL. What mom doesn’t love classic Russian cinema?)

That said, we have some more new Blu-ray reviews for you today... Dennis has posted his thoughts on Greta from Universal and Tim Burton’s Dumbo from Disney.

And I’ve just survived watching Universal’s entire Fast and Furious: 8-Film Collection in 4K Ultra HD over the past two days, and I’ve got a review of that for you too. There are more to come soon, so stay tuned. [Read on here...]

We start this week with a great new Blu-ray review, this one of Scream Factory’s Universal Horror Collection, Volume 1 box set, which includes The Black Cat (1934), The Raven (1935), The Invisible Ray (1936), and Black Friday (1940). Do give it a look.

Morning, folks! Hope you all had a great weekend.

We’ve got an early post for you today with a few things, not the least of which is that we now know what the packaging for HBO’s long-awaited From the Earth to the Moon Blu-ray set will look like. You can see that at left and also below. It’s now available for pre-order on Amazon (click here or on the cover below) with a street date of 7/16 (SRP $39.99 but Amazon has it for just $22.99).

We don’t yet know all the details of the set, but we know that you’ll get all 12 parts on 3 Blu-rays. As you can see from the packaging, it notes that the episodes have been digitally remastered. And we know that the set will include the Inside the Remastering Process featurette. Watch for an official announcement any day now.
